Today’s high near 70, storms possible tonight

After a mostly sunny and dry day today, scattered storms are possible tonight, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Lightning and heavy downpours are possible tonight, after a warm front moves into the I-70 corridor, but no hazardous weather is expected, the weather service said.

The forecast calls for a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight. Rain is likely along and south of the I-70 corridor, with some off and on showers north of I-70 later today into tonight, according to the weather service. Light rain could start around 6 p.m. and continue until 6 a.m. Friday.

Most of the rain today will be around a quarter to a half-inch at the most, the weather service said.

A cold front will push through the area Thursday night into Friday, according to the weather service, and rain should end Friday morning. The rest of the weekend should be dry.

Daytime highs Friday will struggle to reach 60 degrees, while Friday night’s low will drop to 41, the weather service said. Frost is not expected yet in the Kansas City area.

Today, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 70 and an east wind of 3 to 7 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., then a chance of showers after 4 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 50 with a light east northeast wind becoming north 6 to 11 mph after midnight. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Friday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 59 with a north wind of 11 to 13 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is possible.

Friday night, it will be clear, with a low of 41 and a west northwest wind of 6 to 8 mph, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny, with a high near 63 and a west northwest wind of 6 to 8 mph.

Saturday night, it will be clear, with a low of 44, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be sunny, with a high near 72, the weather service said.

Sunday night, it will be clear, with a low of 49, according to the weather service.

Monday, it will be sunny, with a high near 72, the weather service said.

Monday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 53, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be sunny, with a high near 71, the weather service said.

Wednesday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 66, the weather service said.
